Guild of Dungeoneering Launch

Posted by | News | No Comments

DUBLIN, IrelandJuly 14, 2015 – “Independent developer Gambrinous, in partnership with indie publishing powerhouseVersus Evil, has announced the release of their newest role-playing game (RPG) Guild of Dungeoneering for PC which will also be available on Mac soon. The innovative and entertaining new card driven dungeon-crawler combines dungeon building, exploration and combat mechanics with nostalgic ‘hand drawn’ style graphics on graph paper and is now available to buy on Steam and GoG.com for €14.99/£10.99 and Deluxe Edition for €19.99/£14.99.

Guild of Dungeoneering turns traditional dungeon crawling on its head by putting a new spin on classic game play – rather than controlling a dungeoneer, players build their dungeon around him (or indeed her). Using a random deck of cards, players can expand the dungeon and strategically place loot and monsters to lure their dungeoneer in the direction they want him to go.  When their dungeoneer confronts a monster (either willingly or not), battle lines are drawn and the victor will be decided on how cunning a player is with the hand that’s been dealt to them.

“We’re incredibly excited to share Guild of Dungeoneering with the world,” said Colm Larkin of Gambrinous. “What started as a weekend project has blossomed and become something beautiful. I think the game taps into a pretty unique blend of tabletop and role playing nostalgia. I’m really proud of what we’ve made and can’t wait to see what everyone thinks.”

Over time, as players collect enough gold and gain more experience, they will be able to build out their own Guild by adding rooms to attract more-powerful adventurers and unlock better weapons and special cards for their Guild deck all in the name of fame and fortune.

“Guild of Dungeoneering brings to life the dungeon crawler in such a unique, fun way through cards that ooze character,” said General Manager Steve Escalante. “Through its nostalgic, hand drawn look, its clever use of music and deep adventures, Guild of Dungeoneering has captured the TCG and Roleplaying gamers in the Versus Evil team.  We are so excited you can now all play this wonderful indie title.”

skyshine_bedlam_scene_assembledAustin, USA – February 19th, 2015 – Bedlam will reign later this year as independent developer Skyshine games announces its partnership with leading independent game publisher Versus Evil to bring the post-apocalyptic “roguelike” role-playing game (RPG) to market in Summer 2015.

“Since going through a pretty amazing Kickstarter experience we’ve been hard at work bringing Bedlam to life and finding the right partner to take the game to all of the players that have supported us along the way” said John Mueller, Art Director, Skyshine games. “The Banner Saga team at Stoic have given us some great support and advice and having seen the great partnership they enjoyed with Versus Evil it seems the natural choice to work with them on Bedlam”.

Built on the foundations of the Banner Saga engine, Bedlam is an RPG for PC/Steam that sees players sendtheir motley crew of humans, mutants, robots, and cyborgs either into battle or to other areas to explore, gathering valuable items, information and other recruits to help them overcome the various perils encountered during their journey. Powerful weapons and technologies will be discovered and when equipped, give the player access to devastating attacks or even the ability to cheat death and resurrect their favorite lost soldiers.

“Simply put the Skyshine team has put together a winning scenario by combining a unique art style, with proven tech from The Banner Saga, and an experienced development team with Vigil vets” said Steve Escalante, General Manager, Versus Evil. “Bedlam has the ingredients to make a fantastic game. The success of the Kickstarter campaign illustrates gamer’s excitementfor Bedlam and we are looking forward to partnering with them to bring the game to market”

About Bedlam

Centuries in the future, mankind’s quantum advancements have been inevitably overcome by consumerism, greed and war.  The resulting catastrophic clash of beliefs and scientific fusions have ravaged the planet, leaving most of the planet a toxic snarl of scorched earth called Bedlam. The colossal megatropolis of Byzantine is one of the few remaining bastions of civilization and it is here where the game BEDLAM begins. As the last remaining Mechanic and pilot of Boneshaker, the colossal Dozer with its ten-thousand ton engines, players are responsible for transporting passengers through the vast expanse of desolation that surrounds Byzantine, to Aztec City, the supposed utopia beyond the barren divide.

Grab the wheel Mechanic! Assemble your crew and off to hell you go!  Protect your passengers at all costs, you only get paid if you’re alive!

From Safeway to Samurai

Recently The Los Angeles Times did a feature story on one of the indie rappers that is having his music featured in the upcoming Afro Samurai 2 game. We’re excited to see an indie rapper get his big break in an indie game and we can’t wait to share more of his work.

“Last year, Robinson was searching for fresh musical talent for his studio’s game, “Afro Samurai 2,” a sequel to the 2009 action-adventure game based on the titular manga and cartoon series. The first game had voice acting from Samuel L. Jackson and music direction from rap artist Rza of Wu-Tang Clan.

Hip-hop would play an even bigger role in the sequel. A Bay Area native, Robinson preferred local and relatively unknown rappers, like some who had worked on the first “Afro Samurai.”

Guild of Dungeoneering

Posted by | News | No Comments

Independent Irish developer Gambrinous today announced their partnership with leading independent games publisher Versus Evil to release Guild of Dungeoneering on PC, Mac and tablets in 2015. Guild of Dungeoneering is the first commercial game from the Dublin based studio and sees players guide their hero’s dungeon run with the careful placement of rooms and monster cards to steal the loot and escape with their lives… but it doesn’t always work out as planned!

“I am very pleased and excited to be working with Versus Evil on the launch of Guild of Dungeoneering,” said Colm Larkin, Founder of Gambrinous. “After all of our hard work going through Steam Greenlight and making it onto Steam, it’s great to know that our first commercial game is in such safe hands with Versus Evil and I am really looking forward to getting Guild of Dungeoneering out there in front of the gamers that have been so supportive over the past year”.

Guild of Dungeoneering is a turn-based dungeon crawler with a twist: instead of controlling the hero you build the dungeon around him. Using cards drawn from your Guild decks, you lay down rooms, monsters, traps and of course loot! Meanwhile your hero is making his own decisions on where to go and what to fight. But will he be strong enough to take on the dungeon’s overlord?

In between dungeon runs you manage your Guild, building new rooms to attract new classes of adventurer and to expand your decks of cards with more powerful items and events.

“From the moment the team at Versus Evil saw Guild of Dungeoneering we knew this is something that we just had to get behind and help publish” said Steve Escalante, General Manager of Versus Evil. “The gameplay itself is such a simple premise on the outside but with solid depth beneath the surface. It also has one of the most important elements needed to make a game successful – fun replayability which has been proven by the daily play sessions the team and I have been having over the holiday break! Guild of Dungeonering is a simply fantastic addition to our already impressive Q1 and Q2 product line up and I am thrilled to be going into the first consumer facing games expo of 2015 with such an impressive number of strong indie development teams”.

The Banner Saga, Toren, Kyn, Armikrog Coming to PlayStation

Posted by | News, Press | No Comments

Versus Evil is an indie publisher who has been lucky enough to partner with several talented, passionate indie studios to help them launch their “babies” into the big, wide, rabid world of gamers. Yes, that’s YOU lot! We are beyond excited to tell you about a few games that will be coming to the PS4 in early 2015. Each one is unique in its own right.

Armikrog
This is just a really weird way to make a game, but it works! From the original game creators of Earthworm Jim and the Neverhood, comes a point and click adventure…wait for it… stop motion clay animation video game (Try and say that 10 times quickly!).
Supported by a quirky but quite mesmerizing original soundtrack from Terry Taylor, Armikrog will throw you into a rich, colorful world packed with lovable oddball characters and a lot of toilet humor.

The Banner Saga
The quality bar has been set! With several awards already under its belt and a second chapter already in the works, this indie hit is making its way to PS4. If you like turn based strategy games or Vikings (or both) and appreciate stunning, old-school style 2D animation, this is definitely worth checking out. It’s a classic and one that has made a mark in video game history already.

Kyn
(Pronounced “Kin”) It’s hard to imagine that two guys from Holland put this tactical RPG together in just two years, by themselves! But they did, and it’s a big world of magic, colliding with Viking themes and hours upon hours of adventuring.
All I can say is: just be nice to the sheep.

Toren
From fledgling Brazilian indie studio Swordtales comes a dark fantasy adventure in which you have to guide a lonely child as she climbs the tower known as Toren. It’s a beautiful game with puzzles and treacherous enemies to defeat. Your inner “protective instincts” will certainly be played on as you help Moonchild survive the journey from baby to adolescent.

All four of these indies will be playable for the first time ever at PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas December 6th and 7th, so be one of the first to get hands on time with them at the Versus Evil booth — I3 and I4. That’s a capital “i” not a “l.” 🙂
